The Best Guide to Pakistani Weddings in 2021

I’m pretty sure loads of weddings have been postponed due to the pandemic which is honestly so stressful. But hey, that gives you more time to plan the best wedding possible! And because we’re Pakistani, we love being extra AF so that makes it ten times harder lol. As easy as it is for me to say; stay calm, everything will work out just the way you want it to. As brown girls, we are constantly saving hundreds of Pinterest boards and Instagram boards for inspiration for the big day!! But when the time actually comes, we probably have too much saved and fitting everything into your wedding is too unrealistic. So, here is my guide to having the best Pakistani Wedding possible!

Set your Budgets!

This is so important, I literally can’t stress it enough. Save, save & save more and then once you’ve got money you can budget on what you need to get. As we have our traditions, set the budget with your families so that they know not to splurge the cash. The best way to stick to what you need is to create lists. If I’m honest, you don’t even need a wedding planner because you can genuinely do it yourself!! Prioritise on what you definitely need and then cancel on the less important things. Remember, you still have other things to consider – your honeymoon, your first apartment! Don’t be dumb and spend hundreds of thousands of money on a wedding that some people might not even appreciate. I get it, it is YOUR big day but spending ridiculous amounts of money is not necessary & after all it isn’t islamically correct either.

*All Pictures Are From Pinterest*

Stick to One Theme per Occasion!!!

Coming from someone that knows a little something about ‘aesthetically pleasing’ pictures, you should stick to themes throughout your wedding. By this, I mean that for all your events, have different colour themes bearing in mind your outfits and jewellery should match it too. For your dholkis and mehndi, go for something pastel with bright backdrops because it’ll just add that extra-ness to it!!! Next, the Baraat I’d personally go for something more traditional with the colours black and dark red as the theme because I want it to look and feel really intimate. And for the last & most important occasion: Walima (it’s a sunnah if you didn’t already know !!).  I feel like for this event you should probably go for a more princessy look & the event should be like a neutral colour with cosy fairy lights! Going for certain themes will not only look nicer, it will make the guests feel really warm and welcomed because you’ve put so much effort into how the hall looks like!

Cut Down Your Guest List!!!

Us Asians have a habit of inviting our dad’s brother’s, aunty’s, dog’s family because we don’t want to “upset” them. Like seriously wtf LOOL. I feel like our generation is definitely making a change though which I’m so proud off. Our families tend to think about what other people have to say about us, rather than doing what makes us happy – and that’s just so much bs & pressure on us. Simply put: if you don’t know them, don’t invite.

Outfit & Jewellery Planning.

This is it. All we want is to look good at our own wedding. This is probably my most important thing to worry about – what if the dress doesn’t come out the way I wanted it to? This is why you future brides should make sure to set a date on when the dress should be made by (a couple of months before the wedding to be sure).

Matching your jewelleries with your outfits is also very important. If you’re planning to contrast and be brave then make sure you wear the outfit and jewellery before hand to see how it will turn out. Even the heels you wear, make sure they’re comfortable to walk and dance in LOL. Similarly, your jewellery should also be made months before the wedding.

Don't go Overboard.

I know it’s so tempting to just splurge out because you only get married once (hopefully lol) but we need to be realistic. Yes spend loads on your outfit but spending over 20k on hiring a hall for a couple of hours is NOT it. And even for your pre-wedding events like girlie get togethers and sleepovers, don’t spend excessive amounts if you cannot afford to do so. It’ll only leave you more broke after the wedding and we don’t want that do we?!
