It’s time for me to do this COMPULSORY post for those that may want to become part of the public eye by blogging or influencing others via social medias such as Instagram, TikTok etc. As much as I’d love to say it, it isn’t just about taking pretty pictures and videos – there is so much you need to know and I’m still learning new things about Instagram every day, it can get slightly overwhelming which I don’t think many people know – so please do take a minute and read on..
I guess my cousins are a little older than me which means that I am their personal expert with using socials (you’re welcome Maria & Heych LOOL). Some people, like the older generation didn’t even know you could get paid to promote someone’s brands and make a career from it. But obviously, like all careers; social media has its own pros and cons.
Now I know this post may be very informative for those of you that are also very early into this career, so please carry on reading to be aware of some of the things that you may have to go through – and IT’S NOT ALL BAD so don’t worry lol.
People will watch EVERYTHING you do.
Now obviously, this also has its own benefits and drawbacks. So, if I was to purchase an item and promote it simply because I loved it and it came in perfect form – someone else would purchase it because of ME and sometimes this is where it goes wrong. People will start coming to YOU instead for blame that they haven’t had the same experience as you, which I totally get but it’s a little confusing you get me? Because that business will make me look bad for leaving a good review on them when another person doesn’t get the same experience, but I also understand that from the business owner’s perspective; mistakes can happen, we are all human at the end of the day and we all have reasons – so we should give chances to them instead of lashing out and being unprofessional 🙁
There are so many people that constantly look at me, my fashion choices, the way that I write, the way that I talk, how I present myself, how I do my makeup, if I’m the ‘right’ person to do collabs with – it all just feels so overwhelming sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I get love 90% of the time and alhamdulilah, I am SO humbled by it – but oh boi that 10% just frustrates me. Like no matter how long you’ve been in this industry, the hate just keeps getting worse LOOL. But hey, if people don’t hate, are you even doing things right??
And lastly, we have what I call ‘the ghosters’. I have 3k followers via Instagram but roughly only 400-500 people interact with it! It just goes to show that sometimes you just can’t woo everybody and you just gotta carry on posting for yourself only. That’s funny of me to say because I barely post every month LMAO. Buuut in my defence I am getting better and I just want it to look as perfect as I want it to be – so would you rather me post absolute rubbish everyday or good quality pictures here and there? 🙂
There will be so many people that will copy your style/what YOU'RE known for.
Now this is where patience comes in. If you know me, you’d know I am NOT patient at all but with some things you have no choice but to sit back and watch. Like for example – people copying your feed style, your name (yes it is very annoying but it’s okay, breathe sans, breathe) and so much more. This isn’t aimed at anyone other than those people that take ‘inspo’ and claim it as their own. I just wish copyright for your instagram existed LOOL
But if I’m giving you advice, I’d tell you that there will be way worse things coming your way – such as unprofessional businesses, haters etc. So you need not to worry about these little things as they will keep happening and you just gotta keep a positive mindset and think of these people as fans lol.
However, that being said – I do appreciate all the lovely dms I receive about my style and that they’d love links to the items that I wear. Like honestly, I am honoured that some of you guys love my taste in clothing. So thank you!!!
You'll make so many friends & talented people
OMG I think this is the first reason as to why I love being on social media! I virtually meet such lovely people and it’s honestly the best feeling ever. Like sure you can have friends that have known you for your whole life, but sometimes we’d expect a lot from them right? With meeting and exploring new friendships online: you don’t owe anything to anyone and it’s way more flowy in my opinion, which just makes your life so much more care free!! I feel like I’ve become a relationships advisor over the past year because boiii have I gone through the 50 types of friendships phase.
And as to the talented people – I see various accounts with such unique posts and ideas as to what separates their pages from others – IT AMAZES ME. Like mashaAllah if I comment or interact with your posts; just know it comes from the bottom of my heart and that I genuinely mean everything I say. I think I’d like to mention some talented business owners in fact – (on Instagram): @glamourlashes_ldn @thebakeshack_ @fashcalligraphy @berry.sensational – YOU ALL ARE SO EXCEPTIONAL at what you do!!! Everyone reading this, follow them now!
However, you'll also meet some unprofessional businesses.
Nothing stresses me out more than unprofessional and unreliable businesses. If you’re already being so demanding but then telling me you’re not going to give me this one product anymore because it’s for free – it is honestly so insulting. I not only worked hard to get to where I am, I also had a blog by the side of it and that should be another advantage for your business – yet you decide to take me as a joke? I’ve had enough of people trying to use me too, it’s so irritating because most people think oh she’s one of those bloggers – like no bye. I’ve been in this industry for over 3 years and if that doesn’t scream dedication I don’t know what will.
I’m going to stop ranting because this blog is already going to offend so many people but oh well, I say it as it is okay lol. But this topic also links to the fakers on Instagram…
People will cheat their way through social media!!
Let’s not look at the messy background of my prom pic (ok but seriously its kinda giving me anxiety lol)
If you ever feel like giving up because you aren’t getting the praise you deserve just think of it like this – there are so many people with only half of the potential that you’ve already got in the bag – and you’re letting it go because of what – you can’t get enough recognition? STOP. Appreciate and love everything you post even if it gets 2 likes because nothing else should matter.
Don’t even get me started with this. So what you’re telling me is; there are people who will buy followers and likes to get to where I or any other bloggers have with their hard work, to get the same collabs? It’s just not fair to us as bloggers & influencers AND businesses too!!! You’re almost insulting and manipulating them into thinking you have a huge audience and that they will make profit from you! When you really just have random followers that you’ve FORCED to follow you just to ‘look good’ to get free products. This is one of the MAIN reasons as to why many people don’t see influencers/bloggers as an option to make money from or most importantly; to have respect for. I’ll say it once again: it is not fair to us hard working people that have worked their way up to gain an audience for their niche.
That reminds me, if you want to be an influencer you must have a specific niche – what makes you stand out? What will people look at that screams YOU and that they’re reminded of you? You get the gist right lol
Everyone that follows you don't necessarily like you.
And may I just say, it’s totes fine for people to not like you. You can’t please everyone in life can you? There will be people who dislike you because of their friends that have had a bad experience with you or people that have nothing good to do but stalk on others lives before looking back at their own life lool.
This is all normal. Some people would rather prefer just watching and not interacting because they just want to, and I’ll give them that.
LASTLYYY, you'll have your own little support system
Usually if I were to see a hate comment, I’d often laugh my followers replies because they are so sarcastic I love it. I know that many young girls look up to me, I appreciate all the love and support you all show to my blog, tiktok and instagram. And I hope to post many more content that solves your problems, whether that be one issue or five – as long as I help someone out there, I’ll carry on posting for you only lol.
Hope you all enjoyed todays post – though I’m sure only upcoming bloggers/ influencers will read this. Comment below if you loved reading this,
